How to know when it’s time to replace your key fob battery.

When the battery life of your key fob is getting low, it is still possible to use it normally, but there may be some minor abnormalities. Perhaps you are struggling with these problems and are unaware of them. But these tiny inconveniences could potentially lead to some significant implications down the way. The following are signals that your key fob may show when the battery is low.

Range of the Signal Decreasing

Between 30 and 60 feet is the average range for a fob’s signal. However, the range at which your remote controls operate will be diminished if the battery powering it is depleted. Have you noticed that your fob demands you to get closer to the car than before? Or is the signal no longer transmitted over the parking lot, as it did when it was first installed? It’s probably the battery in your key fob. On the other hand, remember that rain can also weaken your device’s signal strength.

Clicks Are Inconsistent

Sometimes multiple presses of the fob button are required before the car recognizes the signal. When this occurs, it means that your battery is struggling to provide enough energy for the device to function. If this happens, you need to get a new battery for your key fob immediately. You need to change the battery if your key fob is also erratic and unresponsive to single presses.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you start a Ford Focus with a dead key fob?

If you use the five-button Intelligent access key, put the key over the transmitter symbol, and start the automobile. The car recognizes keys even though they have no batteries. All you have to do is activate your engine by pressing the Start or Stop buttons.

How much does it cost to replace a Ford key fob?

The price of replacement key fobs will depend on several variables. It’s important to decide whether to hire a dealer or do it himself. If you take a Ford key fob back to dealers for reinstallation, the costs will vary between $75-200. If you decide to replace the keys on your Ford, the cost for a replacement will vary wildly depending on the brand and model. You can order an original battery on Amazon(website or physical store) at a good price with free shipping and delivery to save costs.

How do I reset my Ford key fob?

When the car cannot operate after replacing the battery, the key fob needs to go back on. If a key fob doesn’t work, there is probably a defective key inside the key fob. When this happens, it is usually best to take it up to dealers or locksmiths for programming or replacement.

Bottom Line

Car key fobs work in different ways. Some send a wireless signal from a receiver located in a vehicle to the key fob. After that, it will set off the alarm and activate the locking mechanism. Some others use rolling codes, which means that if a button on the remote is pressed, the key fob will send another code back. This means that a stranger or anyone unfamiliar with you is not authorized to utilize your vehicle without your prior consent. Regardless of the type and specifications of your car’s fob key, it has a very low battery life and consumes a significant amount of power throughout its use. When the battery is low, locking and unlocking your car door and other key performance will become difficult. It is best that you replace the battery in your keyfob once every one to two years to ensure that it functions correctly.
