How to change the 2017, 2018, 2019 Ford Fusion Smart Fob Key Battery

The modern large smart fob for the Fusion requires a CR2450 battery to operate it’s features. The larger CR2450 coin battery is a bit more expensive than smaller CR batteries, but this one is simple to change. To change the battery just pop off that back of the fob to access the internal battery. Here’s how I did it:

All right, so in this video, I'm going to show you how to change the Fob key battery in a Ford Fusion. And this is kind of more modern Fob used from 2017 on. Okay. So the first thing we need to do is get access to the back of this battery. And to do that, to press this button at the top to remove this internal valet key, flip the Fob over, and you'll see there's kind of this backing around here.

We need to pop this off. The easiest way to do this is if you have a flathead screwdriver, you can kind of get into the top here. There's some space where you can get some leverage. But it's actually easy just to take the valet key, get in there and kind of pry this up, and this will pop off, and we'll get access to the key Fob battery. So once you've got the back off here, you'll see the battery that we need to change.

There's a small hole right here. If you can get, like, a paper clip or just something to get underneath the battery, a little small flathead screwdriver works, and then you can pop that right out. So when you put a new one in, just make sure that the positive side is facing towards you, like, so positive side will have the battery writing on it and the plus sign there. And then we're putting this backing back, this little notch right there. Put that in first, and then everything else will pop in really easily.

Get that in first, put the valet key back in, and boom, that's how you change the Ford Fusion modern smart key Fob. And again, it's a CR 2450 battery that you'll need. Okay, thanks a lot.

The flip key fob is a pretty easy fob battery to change. You’ll need a new CR2032 3v battery. In my video, I show you exactly how to change this type:

Alright. So in this video, I'm going to show you how to change the key Fob battery on a Ford Fusion. And this is Ford model year 2013 to 2017. You may have this Fob that looks like this. So if your batteries aren't out, this is how when you change it.

So the first thing I'll do is make sure you have the flip key Fob version of this and flip the key out. And at the base here, right about the midpoint kind of where my fingers point here, there's a small indentation between this backing and the main part of the Fob. And we need to get this backing off here. So what you need to do is take a small flathead screwdriver, or if you have a little small kit like this, put it in that indentation spot there and you'll be able to get leverage to pry off this backing. So you can see that notch right there.

So that's where we put in our flathead to get this backing off. So now we've got this off, we can see the battery that we need to change. And this is a CR 2032 3 volt coin battery. Go ahead and pop that thing out. It might fly off like that, but that's fine.

And when you get a new one of these, just make sure that when you are replacing, oh, my gosh, I can get this thing off the table. When you're replacing this battery, just make sure that the lettering is facing towards you. That's the positive side. Pop a new one back in and then just this backing will just pop right back in and that's it. So that's how you change the key Fob battery for the Ford Fusion.

If you got this flip key version.

This integrated key and fob takes a simple CR2032 coin 3v battery to replace. The key to changing this fob battery is the notch in this fob where you can wedge another key or screwdriver to pry apart the two pieces. See my video here:

Alright. So in this video, I'm going to show you how to change the key Fob battery in a Ford Fusion. And this is an older Smart Fob that was used from 2006 to 2012 models. Okay, s o you got to be able to separate this Fob.

You can see there's kind of a line that goes all the way around it. You've got to be able to separate this into two pieces to get access to the battery that we need to change. So easiest way to do that is there's a little notch in the upper right here, right where my index finger is pointing. So if we look at it and see there's a little notch right there, if you can get some leverage in there and twist. So if you have a small flathead screwdriver or even another key works really well, get in there and then just twist and start to get some separation between the two pieces here.

And just keep doing that and you'll be able to pop off this into two pieces. Get access to the internal battery. And the battery you'll need is a CR 2032 3 volt coin battery. And you can just tap this out. This will fall out when you're replacing this.

Just make sure when you put the new coin battery in, that the positive side is facing up towards you. The positive side has all the lettering, place that in there and then make sure it kind of sits there. And then make sure this rubber piece, if it falls out, make sure you replace it in the same spot. It kind of covers and holds the battery in place. So pop this back, back in, snap it together, and that's it.

That's how you replace the battery. And an older Ford Fusion key Fob. And the battery again that you'll need is a CR 2032 3 volt coin battery.
