Hyundai Veloster Key Fob Battery Remote Replacement (2012 – 2019)

The Hyundai Veloster is two-door coupe that was first introduced in 2011. The Tiburon is the car it tried to replace for Hyundai. The Veloster has had four variants of key fobs over the years. The Smart Egg Shaped Fob, the Flip Keyless, the Smart Square w Valet, and the oldest remote, the Basic Keyless Plastic key fob. For other Hyundai models, see our Hyundai key fob battery page.

What you will need:
• 1x CR2032 battery
• Flat-head screwdriver

To open your Hyundai Veloster key fob, first remove the internal key. Pull the little lever on the back of the fob and remove the key. Under the hole that the key came from, there is an indentation or slot. Insert a flat-head screwdriver into the slot and twist to separate the two halves of the key fob. Pull the pieces of plastic apart until you have access to the inside.

Use your screwdriver to push on the bottom of the battery. Push until the battery comes free. Take a new CR2032 battery and slide it into place just as it was before. Make sure your battery is face-up. Now, just click the two halves of your key fob back together and you’re done.

The latest flip key for the Veloster will require two small tools. A small flat-head screwdriver, and a small Phillips screwdriver. Use the flat-head to remove the back of the fob, and the Phillips to remove the two small screws that hold the battery cover in place. Here’s my video on how to do it:

First step, hold down the button on the front of the key fob to remove the internal key. With your key removed, you can see a slot beneath the key-hole. Take a flat-head screwdriver, insert it into the slot, and twist. The two halves of the key fob will come apart.

Now, take your precision screwdriver or other thin tool and use it to pry the battery out. Come in from the right side of the battery, push down to the bottom, and gently pull the tool back until the battery pops out. Take a new CR2032 battery and put it into place face-down. Push it down until it clicks into place.

Finally, push the two halves of the key fob back together and put back the internal key. If the battery has power, the light on the front of the key should turn on when you push a button.

What you will need:
• 1x CR2032 battery
• Flat-head screwdriver

Changing the battery in this Hyundai Veloster key fob is very simple. First, look at the top of the key fob, above the light. There’s a slot that we can use to open the device. Take a flat-head screwdriver, insert it into the slot, and twist. The key fob will pop open, giving you access to the battery.

Now, just use your screwdriver to push on the bottom of the battery. Push until the battery is loose enough to remove with your fingers. Take a brand-new CR2032 battery and push it into place, face-up, under the metal housing until it’s snugly in place. Finally, click the two halves of the key fob back together. Test your battery by pushing a button on the key fob, if the light comes on, you did everything right and you’re good to go. Nice work!
