Jeep Grand Cherokee Key Fob Battery Remote Replacement (1999 – 2021)

How to replace the Jeep Grand Cherokee “Rounded” key fob battery (2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021)

What you will need:

  • 1x CR2032 battery
  • Flat-head screwdriver

First step—pull the silver switch on the back of the device to release the internal key. Next, look at the bottom of the key fob. Next to the keyhole there is a slot. Insert a flathead screwdriver into the slot and twist, this will separate the two halves of the device.

From here, all you need to do is lift the battery out of its housing with your screwdriver. Be gentle! Take a new CR2032 battery and click it into place positive side down. Finally, click the two halves of the device back together. That’s all it takes. Well done!

In this video I will show you how to change the internal battery on this key fob for the Jeep Grand Cherokee Super Easy. All you need is one of these CR 2032 batteries. I will put a link in the description down below up to get one on Amazon for just a couple of Bucks and then just go ahead, follow along. First thing, you're just going to pull this back so that you can remove your internal key. And now we can see the keyhole right there and a slot right above it.

That's for opening the key Fob. Can use a coin or a flat screwdriver like this. Just insert it in there. Hold everything firmly and twist just with a twisting motion like that can start to separate the two halves of the key Fob. Go ahead and work your way down twisting until they come apart.

Now we just have to remove this battery. So just get under there with your tool. Gently try to pop it out like that. Now take a new CR 2032. Make sure this positive side goes face down and slide it in towards this metal component.

First push that into place grand, then click the other side down.

Now we just put this back together and we're done. Make sure this clicks into place nicely and that's it. Just put your key back in and you're all set. How to replace the Jeep Grand Cherokee “Teardrop” key fob battery (2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013)

What you will need:

  • 1x CR2032 battery
  • Flat-head screwdriver

First, look to the bottom of the device. Notice the seam between the two halves of the key fob. Take your flathead screwdriver and carefully insert it into the seam, wiggling as you push. Once the tool is inside, twist until the two halves of the device pop open. 

Now, carefully remove the rubber piece. Next, use your finger or screwdriver to gently lift the battery out of its housing. Take a new CR2032 battery and click it into place positive side down. Finally, set the rubber buttons back on top and click the front piece of plastic back into place. That’s all it takes. You just changed the battery at home and saved yourself a trip to the dealership.

In this video I will show you how to change the internal battery in a Jeep Grand Cherokee. Key Fob this key Fob was used between the years 2008 - 2013 and takes one CR 2032 battery. It's super easy to do this yourself at home. You don't need to pay anyone to do it. All you need is one of these batteries.

I'll leave a link down in the YouTube description to get one on Amazon for just a couple Bucks and then you can just follow along. Okay, look down to where the key ring is. You can see this little separation in the two halves of the key fob. Just going to take something like a flathead screwdriver and coming in right where there's this little indentation here, just right on the corner there. Going to start to push and wiggle until it slides in.

Once it's in there pretty good. You can just twist the tool like that and then pull it apart with your fingers. Super easy. This thing may come out this rubber part with the circuit board. Don't worry.

Put that back together afterwards. Just going to now get under the battery, push it up until it is free. Now we're going to take a new CR 2032 battery. Make sure this positive side goes face down and sliding it in towards this metal component. First getting that in place and then clicking the other side down is all it takes.

Now we just have to put it all back together. Go ahead and position this on top like that until you can feel that it's secure. And I'll just take that piece of plastic and click it back on top and that's it. You're all set. Pretty easy, right?

What you will need:

  • 1x CR2032 battery
  • Flat-head screwdriver

Locate the small indentation on the bottom-left side of the key fob. Take a flathead screwdriver, insert it into this slot, and turn it like a key. The two halves of the device will come apart. Next, carefully remove the rubber piece with the buttons on it.

Now that you are inside, use your screwdriver to carefully remove the battery. Take a new CR2032 battery and click it into place positive side down. Finally, put the rubber piece back in place and click the face of the device back on. That’s all it takes, nice work!

In this video, I will show you how to change the internal battery. Any Jeep Grand Cherokee Key Fob. This particular Key fob was used between 2005 and 2007 and uses one CR 2032 battery. You can just get one of these online. We'll leave a link in the description to get one on Amazon for a couple of Bucks and you can just follow along.

Do it yourself at home. Okay, look towards on the left side where the key is. If you look, you will see this little indentation little opening. We can stick something like a flathead screwdriver in and twist.

Just hold it firmly and give it a twist like that. You'll start to create this separation down the side. You can just pull it apart with your fingers or you can continue working down twisting until it comes apart like that. Now we will just remove this rubber piece with the circuit board inside. Pop out the battery, just gently get your tool beneath it and push up and we'll fly out like that.

Take a new CR 2032. Make sure the positive side goes face down and just click it back into place. Now just reassemble everything. Put this rubber on top till it sits in place and just click the face of the key Fob back in place. Just like that.

How to replace the Jeep Grand Cherokee “Pear-Shaped” key fob battery (1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004)

What you will need:

  • 2x CR2016 battery
  • Flat-head screwdriver

Find the slot on the bottom right side of the key fob. Insert a flathead screwdriver into the slot and twist until the two halves of the device come apart. Now, use your fingernail or screwdriver to remove both of the batteries. Next, click two CR2016 batteries into place, one on top of the other, both positive side up. All you need to do now is click the two halves of the key fob back together. That’s all it takes.

In this video, I will show you how to change the internal battery in this Jeep Grand Cherokee Key Fob. This key fob here was used on Grand Cherokee between 1999 and 2004 and takes two CR 2016 batteries. Super easy to change your battery at home. Just follow along and you'll be able to do it. No problem.

All you need is two of these batteries. You can order them online. So I left a link down in the YouTube description. If you'd like to get them for just a couple of Bucks, the first thing we're going to do is locate this slot on the side of the key Fob and use that to open up with a flathead screwdriver.

Maybe use fitted dime or something else in there. Just whatever you have that can get in here so you can hold firmly grand twist. And with very little effort, you'll start to separate and you can just twist or pull apart with your fingers until it's opened up Now, right here. Be careful when removing these batteries, but the first one should come up pretty easily with your fingernail.

Or if you want to take another small tool, flatted screwdriver, toothpick, something like that, just get under it. Just with a little lift, it'll pop right out the other one. Same deal. Careful not to damage the metal component, but all you want to do. So you could just push into the side with your finger and kind of start to get that battery to come out

And again, it just pops out. A little bit of effort and you'll get those two batteries out. Put in your two new CR 2016 batteries face up just like this, and they click into place super easily, just like that. Just reattach these two halves with a click and you're done. Super easy, right?
