To change the battery, we first need to open up the key fob. First, look to the left side of the device where the key is housed. Inside the key’s compartment, there is a seam on the top between the two halves of plastic. Use your flat-head screwdriver to push the outer piece of plastic up. Push until you can fit a flat-head screwdriver into the opening on the bottom of the key (where the two holes for the keyring are). Put your tool into the bottom and twist to fully remove the top half of the fob.

Now that we are inside, look at the square indentation that holds the battery in place. Take a precision screwdriver (3.0mm/PH0 or smaller) and insert it into the bottom-right corner of the compartment (there is a small triangle pointing to this corner.) Push down into the bottom of the corner and then attempt to pry the battery out. Gently rocking and prying, the battery should pop out easily.

Place your replacement CR1620 battery face down into the indentation and press down until it clicks into place. Lastly, replace the top half of the key fob. Well done! You have a new battery in your Mazda 6 Hatchback key fob.

Replacing the battery in this Mazda 6 key fob is simple. First, locate the small slot between the two halves of the key fob on the bottom of the device (where the keyring is). Take your screwdriver, coin, or butter knife, and insert it into the slot. Gently twist your tool until the key fob pops open.

Now we can remove the CR2025 battery. Look for the red dot on the plastic holding the battery in place. This is where we want to apply pressure. With the tool you just used, apply pressure to the red dot-side of the battery, close to the edge. With minimal effort, the battery should pop out. Now, we can take a new CR2025 and slide it up towards the red dot, and push the bottom of the battery into place. Make sure your battery is face up.

All that’s left is to click the two parts of the key fob’s body back together. With that, you’re finished! You have a brand new battery in your key. Not so hard, was it?
