A Little About Mazda CX-5 Key Fob

Heir to the proud lineage that includes the Mazda Tribute and CX-7—the CX-5 is a pioneer of Mazda design philosophy. This compact crossover was born in 2012 and was the first Mazda to feature the KODO – Soul of Motion design language.

The concept of this design focuses on recreating the form of an animal that’s ready to pounce—think potential energy. This design philosophy is what sets Mazda apart from the pack and is the reason for the CX-5’s elusive visual style.

Equally stylish is the smart key the vehicle comes with. This key fob lets you lock, unlock, or panic your Mazda CX-5 remotely. But what’s really “smart” about it is that you can unlock or start your vehicle while the key is in your pocket. Your CX-5 will detect the proximity of your smart key and grant you access. When your battery dies, simply slide out the handy internal key to get going.

Speaking of your battery dying, let’s get into why you’re really here—to change the internal battery in your CX-5 key fob!

In this guide, we will show you everything you need to know to get your battery changed so you can get back out on the road in no time.

From here, you will need your flathead screwdriver. Locate the grooves on the left and right walls inside the keyhole. Insert your screwdriver into a groove and twist to loosen that side. Repeat for the groove on the other side. This will begin to separate the two halves of the key fob.

3. Twist screwdriver, separate key halves
