How to change the battery of Mazda CX-7 Flip Key Fob
Total Time: 4 minutes
1. Press button, release key
The first thing is to press the metal button on the front of your remote key fob to release the metal key.
2. Find slot inside key compartment
Next, look inside the compartment where the metal key was housed and locate the slot. Can you see that? Good.
3. Press slot, separate plastic
Holding the top of the remote key fob (where the metal button is) with your thumb, use your fingers or a small flat-head screwdriver to push up against the slot. This will slightly separate the top piece of plastic from the rest of the key fob.
4. Use screwdriver to separate key fob, reveal battery
Now that you have created some separation, look to the bottom of the key fob where the keyring attaches. Insert your flat-head screwdriver into the opening and twist, pushing the two pieces further apart. You should now be able to fully separate the two halves with your fingers, exposing the battery.
5. Remove battery with tool
Next, take your precision screwdriver, pen, or another thin tool. Holding the key fob with the key facing down, insert your tool into the bottom-right corner of the indentation that houses the battery (locate the small black arrow pointing towards it). Use a prying and rocking motion to pull the battery up with your tool until the battery pops out. Now you can change your CR1620 battery.
6. Insert new CR1620 battery with positive down
Time to replace your Mazda key fob battery. Slide in the new battery with the positive side facing down into the compartment. Start with the top side of the battery, getting that into place before pushing on the bottom of the battery to ensure it is housed firmly.
7. Reconnect key fob halves, insert metal key
The last thing is to reconnect the two pieces of the key fob (being careful that the circuit board stays in place) and flip your metal key back into the slot.
