Mazda RX-8 Key Fob Battery Remote Replacement DIY Years 2004-2008

The Mazda RX-8 is a sports car that was produced from 2002 to 2012. At the time of its launch, Mazda suffered from a rather unexciting product line in the United States apart from the MX-5 Miata. The RX-8 was a solution to this problem, adding a dash of flare into the Mazda lineup amid a growing interest in tuning and performance cars.

There are 2 key fobs used by the RX-8 over the years. The first was the “rounded” key fob, followed by the “flip” key fob in 2005. The batteries of both of these devices can be easily changed at home by following a few simple steps. This guide has everything you need to replace your RX-8 key fob battery. First, look to the left side of the key fob where the key is housed. Inside this area, on the top, you can see a seam between the two halves of plastic. Use your screwdriver or fingers to push the top piece of plastic up. Push until you have created enough space to fit your flat-head screwdriver into the seam on the bottom of the key fob (where the two holes for the keyring are). Twist your tool until the two pieces are loose and you can separate them with your fingers.

Now we can change the CR1620 battery. Take your precision screwdriver (3.0mm/PH0 or smaller) or another small tool and insert it carefully into the top-right corner of the battery’s compartment (there is a small arrow pointing to this corner). Push down into the corner and pry the battery out in a rocking motion. If you get the tip of your tool under the battery, it should come out easily.

Now, place your new battery face down into the battery compartment and press down until it snaps into place. Finally, connect the two pieces of the device back together, making sure the fit is secure. Congratulations, you’re all done. Your RX-8 key fob is charged and read to go!

Changing the internal battery in your RX-8 key fob is simple. Begin by inserting your flat-head screwdriver, coin, or butter knife into the small indentation on the bottom of your key fob (where the keyring attaches). Twist your tool until the two halves of the key fob separate.

Next, find the red dot on the plastic holding the battery in place. Use your tool to apply light pressure to the edge of the battery right next to the red dot. The battery should pop out with little effort. Now you can take your new CR2025 battery and slide it up towards the red dot before pushing the bottom into place. Make sure the battery is secure and then reconnect the two halves of the key fob.

That’s all it takes. You have a fresh battery in your RX-8 key fob. Nice work.
