- Small-size flat-head screwdriver
How to install a new battery in the Subaru Impreza “Silver Sides” key fob
Total Time: 4 minutes
1. Remove valet key from back
Flip the key to the back. Search for and press the small button behind the key and pop out the valet key.
2. Use screwdriver to open battery cover
Insert a flathead screwdriver into the slot beside the valet keyhole and twist. The battery cover will come apart in halves as soon as you twist.
3. Work with circuit board half
After opening up the remote, one part has the circuit board. Set the first half aside as you are going to be working with the half that houses the circuit board.
4. Flip circuit board, remove battery
Gently remove the circuit board from the back casing and flip it over. The other side of the circuit board houses the dead battery. Hold down the board with one hand and use the flathead screwdriver to reach into the space between the plastic housing and the battery with the other hand. Insert and twist the screwdriver into the space until the battery pops out.
5. Insert new CR2032 battery, positive side up
Install the new battery into the battery hole with the positive side (the part with texts) facing up. Push the battery down towards the bottom first and click the top.
6. Reattach circuit board, ensure battery fits
Return the circuit board to the back cover. Ensure that the battery sits in the battery-shaped hole on the back cover.
7. Reassemble halves, replace valet key
Place the two halves back together, but be careful so that the plastic on the other half does not fall off. Click the two halves and they’d snap right into place. Finally, replace the valet key.
There you go! Start enjoying your remote keyless entry again.

How to Replace the Subaru Impreza “Fixed Key” Key Fob Battery (2012-2020)

Tools you will need:
- 1x CR1620 battery
- Flat-head screwdriver
Step 1
Get a small flathead screwdriver. Insert the screwdriver into the top of the key where the key ring attaches. Once you get enough space, use the screwdriver to work your way around the key and split it into two halves.
Step 2
After the back casing comes off, you’ll see an internal piece. The inner piece houses the battery. Remove the internal piece and set the casings aside.
Step 3
Now, put a flat-head screwdriver under the latch at the top of the inner piece and push it up. Repeat the same for the second, third, and fourth latches until you can easily pull the inner piece apart with your fingers.
Step 4
Put the corner of the flathead screwdriver under the battery hole and carefully pry the old battery out of the inner piece.
Step 5
Swap the old battery with a new one in a reverse order i.e with the positive side (the part with lettering) facing down. Click the battery into place with your finger.
Step 6
Click the internal piece back together by pressing them against each other slightly. Carefully place the inner piece back into the fob case with the buttons away from you to fit into the casing. Finally, replace the second cover of the fob key.

How to Replace the Subaru Impreza “Teardrop” Key Fob Battery (2005-2014)

What you will need:
- 1x CR2025 battery
- Flat-head screwdriver
Step 1
Search the key for an indentation line that runs through the center of the key. The line separates the key into two equal parts. Insert the screwdriver into the indentation and slowly twist. Once you have enough space, the key fob will pop open and split into two halves.
Step 2
When the key comes apart, you’d be able to get access to the old battery. Use a corner of the flathead screwdriver to lift and pop out the old battery.
Step 3
Install the new battery with the positive side facing down. Note that the positive side is the part with texts.
Step 4
Put the two halves together and press slightly after you have changed the old battery.

Flip the key to the back and use a small precision screwdriver to remove the two screws holding the battery cover down. Then separate the screw aside and remove the back cover with your fingers.
Step 2
After the back casing comes off, you’ll have access to the dead battery. Use your thumb to slide off the old battery.
Step 3
Pick up the new Subaru Impreza key fob battery and put it in with the positive side (the part with lettering) facing up. Slide the battery into the battery hole.
Step 4
Now replace the cover of the fob key and press slightly to ensure a snug fit.
