How to install a new battery in a Toyota Yaris iA key fob

Total Time: 3 minutes

1. Press switch, pull out key

Flip your key fob over to the back. Hold down the little switch you see and pull out the internal key.

2. Open key fob with screwdriver or key

Insert the flathead screwdriver or the same key you just removed into the keyhole, apply a little pressure, and twist. You will hear a crack sound showing the key fob has opened up.

3. Remove plastic disc from battery cover

Now, remove the plastic disc on top of the battery serving as the battery cover. Set it aside.

4. Remove old battery

Remove the old battery with your fingers.

5. Insert CR2025, positive side up

Install the new battery (CR2025) with the positive side facing up.

6. Reassemble fob parts, then click

What you will need:

  • 1x CR2025 battery
  • Flat-head screwdriver

Step 1

Turn your key fob remote to the back and press the small button to release the internal key.

Step 2

Next, put the key back about halfway, hold the key fob loosely and turn the key. The crack sound you hear shows the two halves of the key fob have opened and you can now separate them with your finger.

Step 3

Pull off the battery cover with your fingers to access the old battery.

Step 4

Remove the dead battery with your fingers and slide in a new CR2025 battery. Ensure the positive side faces up.

Step 5

Put back the battery cap and the key fob remote covers and you’re good to go!

Test your new battery by pressing any buttons, if the light comes on then you did it right. Nice work!

What you will need:

  • 1x CR2016 battery
  • Flat-head screwdriver
  • A coin

Step 1

Locate the slot at the top of the key fob remote where the key ring attaches.

Step 2

Insert a regular flathead screwdriver in the slot and twist. The back cover will remove. Take it off and set it aside.

Step 3

Now, pull over the inner component housing the battery and set aside the other back cover.

Step 4

On the sides of the component is an arrow with ‘use coin to open…’ Get your coin inside and twist until the device opens up. You can use the same flathead screwdriver for this purpose.

Step 5

Insert the corner of your flathead screwdriver into the side of the battery and pry it out gently.

Step 6

Take your new battery and slide it into the battery space. Make sure the positive side stays up.

Step 7

Return the key fob pieces, click everything back together, and your key fob remote will work just fine!

Lock and unlock your door to test your new key fob battery. If that worked, then you’re good to go.
