Required Tools and Materials
Before you begin, make sure you have the following items:
- Replacement battery (CR2032 or CR1632)
- Flathead screwdriver
You can purchase these batteries online. I’ve provided links in the description to find these batteries on Amazon at a low price.
Opening the Key Fob
First, flip open the key. You’ll notice that the key fob consists of two halves. You can separate these halves by pulling them apart. If this proves difficult, use a flathead screwdriver.
On the back of the key fob, there is an indentation. Insert the flathead screwdriver into this indentation and twist it to make the separation easier.
Accessing the Battery Compartment
Once the key fob is open, you’ll need to access the battery compartment. To do this, open the bottom section of the fob. You can use the two lips where the key was housed before to pry the plastic open. If this is difficult, use the flathead screwdriver for better leverage.
Removing the Old Battery
Inside the key fob, you’ll find the battery. It may either come out easily or require a bit of prying. In my case, the battery came out easily when I dumped it out.
Check the battery to see whether it’s a CR2032 or a CR1632. This information will be printed on the battery itself.
Installing the New Battery
Once you have your new battery, make sure the positive side (marked with a plus sign) is facing down. Place the battery into the compartment with the positive side down.
Once the new battery is in place, reassemble the key fob. Align the two halves and give them a good squeeze to secure them together.
Finishing Up
With the new battery installed and the key fob reassembled, you’re finished! Your key fob should now be working correctly.
