Tools You Will Need

Before we start, gather the following tools:

  • CR 1620 battery
  • Flat head screwdriver
  • Precision screwdriver

Step 1: Open the Key Fob

First, flip out the key and look into the compartment where the key was. You’ll notice a small groove where the light reflects.

This is where we will push to open the fob. As you start to push, the top plastic part will begin to come off. Continue pushing and working from the bottom.

Step 2: Use a Flat Head Screwdriver

If the fob is too tight and doesn’t open easily with your fingers, use a flat head screwdriver. Hold the top part because it won’t move; only the bottom part will come up.

Find the groove and push straight up. Once you have a little separation, you can safely remove the part to access the battery.

Step 3: Remove the Old Battery

Now, use a precision screwdriver to remove the battery. The battery is in there pretty deep, so a precision tool will help. Insert your tool into the bottom right corner where there’s a small arrow.

Start prying out the battery by rocking it gently. The battery should pop right out.

Step 4: Insert the New Battery

Take your new CR 1620 battery. Make sure the side with the brand information faces down. Slide the top part into its place first and then push the bottom part until it clicks securely.

Step 5: Reassemble the Key Fob

Line everything up and push the parts back together. Your key fob is now ready with a new battery.

That’s it! You’re good to go now. Enjoy your drive.
