How to Replace a Jeep Key Fob Battery: “Corner Cut”

Total Time: 3 minutes

1. Open key fob using indentation

Turn to the bottom of your key fob and locate the little indentation. You’re going to open up the key fob through this opening. 

2. Insert screwdriver, pop open, remove cover carefully

Now, insert your flathead screwdriver into the slot and twist it gently. Once you hear a pop, it means the back parts have opened up. Go ahead and work your way down with the same screwdriver or carefully pull the device cover off with your fingers. Try not to damage anything while you’re at it.

3. Remove old battery gently

Next, insert your precision screwdriver (or a toothpick) under the little space between the old battery and its socket. Lift it up gently or rock it back and forth, and the battery will come flying out.

4. Add new CR2450 battery, positive up

Time to get in your new battery. Take your new CR2050 battery and slide it into the right place and click it down. Ensure the positive side stays up.

5. Reassemble parts, you’re done!

Finally, in reverse order, reassemble the key fob parts and you’re good to go!

How to Change the Battery In A Jeep Key Fob: “Rounded Red”(2015-2017)

Changing the battery in this Jeep key fob is pretty straightforward. Just follow along and you will get the hang of it in no time. 

What you will need:

  • A CR2032 battery (you can get this on Amazon)
  • A flathead screwdriver

Step 1

Flip your key fob over. Hold down the little switch on the back while you pull out the physical key (also known as the mechanical or internal key).

Step 2

Next, locate the little slot right above the keyhole and insert your flathead screwdriver into this opening. Hold the device firmly on both sides and carefully twist the screwdriver inside until you feel the device start opening up. Oftentimes, you will hear a crack.

Step 3

Now, start working your way through the opening with the same screwdriver to completely separate the key fob into two halves. This gives you access to the old battery.

Step 4

The battery here is pretty easy to remove and you don’t even need a tool to get it out. All you have to do is dump it onto your hands from its housing.

Step 5

You can now replace the old battery. Slide in your new CR2032 battery and click it into place. Make sure the positive side faces down. 

Step 6

Put the key fob covers back together and click firmly. Return the physical key and you’re done. That’s all it takes!

You don’t need to pay any dealership to replace this Jeep key fob battery for you. All you need to do is follow the instructions below and you’ll be good to go. 

What you will need:

  • 1 CR2032 battery
  • A flathead screwdriver

Step 1

The first thing is to pull out your internal key. Done that? Good.

Step 2

Now, insert your flathead screwdriver into the keyhole (where the key just came out of), and twist it gently. The key fob will start to separate and you can work the screwdriver down the sides to completely open the device up.

Step 3

Now that you have access to the dead battery, use the corner of your screwdriver to gently lift the battery out of its housing. Be careful not to damage anything.

Step 4

Take your new CR2032 battery and slide it into the right place. Ensure you push it towards the metal component first, and then click securely.  Remember to keep the positive side faced down.

Step 5

The last thing is to put the key fob covers back together. This might take little effort than usual but they will eventually click. That’s all! Remember to return the physical key.

What you will need:

  • 1 CR2032 battery
  • A flathead screwdriver

Step 1

First and foremost, look down to where the key ring is attached. What you’re looking for is a little separation between the two halves of the device at the bottom. Once you’ve located that, hold your key fob firmly on both sides and take the next step below. 

Step 2

Insert the flathead screwdriver into the slot around the corner. Start pushing it in and wiggling until you hear a crack. Now gently pull the device apart with your fingers for a complete separation.

If the rubber part with the circuit board falls off, it’s okay. Just set it aside for now. It’s easy to put back together when you’re done.

Step 3

You should be staring at the old battery now. Use your screwdriver to get under it and push it up. It will come right out. 

Step 4

Take a new CR2032 battery with the positive side facing down and slide it into place. Ensure you push it towards the metal component first and click the other side down, otherwise, your key fob may not work.

Step 5

Now go ahead and position your key fob cover on top of the battery and click together. 

There you go! Pretty easy, wasn’t it? Test your new battery to ensure it works fine.

It’s easy to change this version of the Jeep key fob battery. You only need a couple of things and you will have yourself a smooth working key fob.  

What you will need:

  • A CR2032 battery
  • A flathead screwdriver

Step 1

You don’t need to pull out the key for this fob. Just look to the bottom side where the key is attached and locate a little slot.

Step 2

Next, insert your flathead screwdriver into this space and twist it gently. Move down to the sides while you keep twisting. Continue until the key fob opens up or completely comes apart. 

Step 3

Now set the back cover to the side. Remove the rubber component housing the circuit board on the second cover to access the dead battery. 

Step 4

To remove the old battery. Insert the corner of your flathead screwdriver underneath the battery and it pops out.

Step 5

Take your new CR2032 battery and install it with the positive side facing down.

Step 6

The only thing left to do is to reassemble the key fob parts into their rightful places. Ensure you click it all securely to avoid damage.
