Common Reasons Why Your Chrysler 300 Key Fob Has Stopped Working

It’s easier to jump into changing the battery inside your key fob or the key fob itself when it stops working. However, that may not always be the solution.

Aside from a dead battery, here are other things to look into.

  1. Unsoldered leads

There is normal circuitry inside the key fob consisting of soldered leads to buttons. In an instance where the metal becomes worn out, the key fob will stop working.

You’ve got two ways to solve this problem.

a. An attempt to solder the leads DIY. Note, however, that this process is pretty technical and may require the service of a professional instead.

b. Buy a generic key fob that works well for your Chrysler 300.

If you go for option 2, you may need to reprogram your key fob before getting it to function with your vehicle. This will cost you some extra money. The good news is, in some cases, reprogramming may not be necessary for a keyless entry system.

  1. Car battery problem

Another common reason why your key fob may not function is due to a low car battery. In this case, the car is not able to sense the signals coming from your key fob.

Check out the sign on the dashboard to see if there is a weak battery sign. If there is, then getting your car battery charged is the way out here, and not a new key fob.

  1. Using the wrong key fob

One important thing to note is that key fobs do not work with any type of vehicle. You have to be selective and take note o the model or type before purchasing a new key fob for your car.

If you accidentally pick another vehicle’s key fob in store, the keyless entry system won’t work. This is because your Chrysler 300 onboard computer does not identify the key fob you’re using and will cease to start working.

For your Chrysler 300 key fob to function, double-check and ensure you’re using the right one.

  1. Damaged key fob

If your Chrysler key fob doesn’t function it could be physically damaged due to accidental dropping or water exposure. Moisture can prevent remote key fobs from working. You may need to manually unlock or lock your car doors in the meantime, except you’ve got a spare key.

  1. Radio interference

Do you have a device that may create radio interference close to you?

If yes, this is a jammer that will hinder the signal from your car, which in turn, hinders the functionality of your key fob. So, irrespective of the number of times you press the buttons on your Chrysler 300 key fob, your car doors will neither unlock nor lock.

To fix the problem, simply move away from where you are.

  1. Faulty keyless entry system

The keyless entry system of your car has a role to play in your key fob work. This is because even when the key fob is able to initiate the unlock signal on your vehicle if the keyless entry system of your Chrysler 300 car has developed a fault, you won’t get the right response.

The way out? Place a phone call to your professional dealership to check for a proper diagnosis. They are the only ones that can help resolve this.
