How to Change the Battery in Your Ford Escape Square Key Fob
Total Time: 2 minutes
1. Find the fob key’s indentation
Check around the fob key for the indentation line that divides the key into two halves.
2. Insert screwdriver, twist, separate halves
Insert a flathead screwdriver into the indents line and slightly twist as you slowly work your way around the line. Keep inserting and twisting till you get enough leverage then separate the key in halves by popping off the back cover.
3. Split key for circuit board and battery access
Separating the key in halves will give you access to the circuit board on one side and the replacement battery on the other.
4. Replace CR2032 battery, positive side down
Use the flathead screwdriver to pop out the dead battery. Install the new battery with the positive side facing down. Note that the positive side is the part with texts.
5. Reassemble and secure halves tightly
Pop back the two halves together. Press round slightly or apply superglue to ensure a snug fit.

Step 1:
Get a small flathead screwdriver. Check through the key for an indentation line that runs through the center of the key. The line separates the key into two equal parts.
Step 2:
Insert the screwdriver into the indentation line and slowly work your way around the key. The best place to get some leverage is at the top of the key where the key ring attaches. Once you get enough space, the key fob will pop and split into two halves.
Step 3:
Once the key comes apart, you’d be able to get access to the old battery. Then use the flathead screwdriver to pop out the old battery.
Step 4:
Install the new battery with the positive side facing upward. The positive side is the part with texts.
Step 5:
It’s time to put the two halves together. The other half of the fob key has a small rubber that stays on the battery hole after the battery goes in. Ensure the rubber stays in place before popping both halves back together. You can add super glue to tighten the key fob or you could just press round slightly to ensure a snug fit.

Turn over the key fob to the side with the ford logo. Push up the key release switch behind the key and pull out the metal ignition key.
Step 2:
With the back of the key facing up, depress the lever as you insert a flathead screwdriver or the key blade into the indentation line at the top of the key where the key ring attaches. Gradually pry the indent line till the back cover comes off.
Step 3:
