The Ford Focus has had 3 major key fobs in it’s life as a Sedan, Hatchback, and more. The battery in all fobs has been the small CR2032 coin / key battery. If you have a different fob, see our Ford page for other options and battery types.

Changing the fob battery in the smart remote key for the Ford Focus is simple and will take no more than a few minutes. You’ll need to remove the valet key first, and then pry the back off to access the internal CR2032 battery to replace. Here is my video where I show how to change this battery:

Alright. So in this video, I'm going to show you how to change the battery on a Ford Focus key Fob. This is used from 2012 to present. And Fob looks like this.

This is how we change it. First thing I want to do is flip this over. You can see this little latch here. If you pull this kind of moves, if you pull this towards you, it will actually release this valet key right at the top. So pull it towards you.

Pull out the valet key. And our goal here is we have to separate this backing that runs all the way along here from the main part of the Fob. So to do that actually the easiest way I found. Go ahead and take the valet key. And there's two spots right at the top here.

You can get some leverage and just try to separate this back from the main part if you're having trouble. A little small flat head screwdriver is really handy too. You can get into the few spots at the top here and start to get some separation on this back. Once you have a little bit of a gap there, you can just go ahead and really just kind of use your hands, hold the base part down and then pull it apart. So we're not going to do anything with this side, but flip it over and see the battery here that we need to change.

Pop this guy out, make sure there's a little metal piece here that holds the contact points. Make sure that stays in place. If you have a paper clip or a small flathead screwdriver like this and pop out this internal battery. So the battery that we need to replace is a CR 2032 3 volt battery. So when you get a new one of these, when you put it in, just make sure the positive side goes down like that.

So the positive side has the lettering. So you should see a very smooth few little bumps on this negative side towards you. So you got the new battery in. And then to put this back together, all we do is just line everything up and it will pop back into place. Make sure everything is tight, put the valet key back in and that's it.

That's how you change the Fob battery. Ford Focus 20 12 - 20 19. Smart key Fob. And again, that's a CR 2032 battery.

Alright. So in this video, I'm going to show you how to change the key Fob battery on a Ford Focus. And this Fob has been used since 2011 to present. So if your Fob looks like this, this is how you change the battery.

It's gotten lower died. So key here is we've got to separate this key Fob into two pieces. You can see it's a line that goes all the way around the key itself. And inside is the internal battery. Now, the key to changing this is a little notch right here in the upper right.

If you're looking at Fob like this, and you can stick a flathead screwdriver in there or actually like just using another key and stick that in there and then twist and you can get a little bit of leverage to start to get some separation between these two pieces. You can kind of work your way towards the middle, where you might put like a key ring twist there, and these two pieces will pop off. And you've got access to the internal battery, which is a CR 2032, 3 volt battery. Pop that out and that will fall right out. And then when you replace this with a new one, just make sure that the positive side of the battery, the CR 2032, is facing you and pop that back in there.

It kind of bounces a little bit. There's a little rubber backing here to make sure that if it comes off, just make sure you replace it the same way. Because it does kind of help keep this battery connection in place. So pop this back on. You can just snap it back together.

Make sure everything's all tight. And there you go. That's how you replace the coin battery on Ford Focus. We've got this Fob from 2011 to present. And again, battery you'll need is a CR 2032.

And I'll put a link to that at the bottom.
